For the third straight year, the arts councils from Chatham, Durham, Orange and Wake Counties will work together on the Big Night in for the Arts. This fundraising initiative, first conceptualized as a way to help the arts survive the COVID pandemic, has raised more than $600,000 in its first two years. More than $350,000 of that total came in 2021.
As with the first two Big Nights In, the initiative will be broadcast on WRAL. It is scheduled for March 9 at 7 p.m., and will feature numerous local performers. Roots music duo Chatham Rabbits, Tony winner Beth Leavel, Appalachian-Venezuelan fusion duo Larry & Joe, spoken word artist Dasan Ahanu and public artist Patrick Dougherty, whose stickwork sculptures could formerly be seen outside the Ackland Art Museum in Chapel Hill, will be featured in the event.
In addition, the arts commissions are hosting a Triangle-wide watch party at The Mayton in downtown Cary, with a special live performance from Grammy-nominated country musician Rissi Palmer.
