Film Fest 919, the only major film festival in Chapel Hill, will be returning for its fourth iteration this October, the festival announced in a release Tuesday. The festival will run from Monday, October 18 to Sunday, October 24, and will be co-hosted by two local venues: the Drive-In at Carraway Village and the Silverspot Cinema in University Place.
“We are all anxious to get back to the movies and we look forward to continuing our tradition of introducing audiences to bold and remarkable works from celebrated filmmakers,” said festival founders Randi Emerman and Carol Marshall.
While the lineup of films will not be released until October, passes for the festival went on sale Friday, September 3. They are available for purchase here. Passholders will have the opportunity to purchase tickets before they go on sale to the public.
Masks and proof of vaccination are required to attend any event during Film Fest 919.
In previous years, Film Fest 919 has featured critically-acclaimed films such as “Nomadland” and “One Night in Miami…” in 2020, “Parasite” and “Marriage Story” in 2019 and “Roma” and “Shoplifters” in 2018. All three of the most recent winners of the Academy Award for Best Picture were screened at Film Fest 919.
In addition, this year’s Film Fest 919 will honor musician and record producer Diane Warren with its Spotlight Award. The festival’s release described Warren as a “profoundly talented, multi-award-winning, 12-time Oscar-nominated queen of the power ballad mega hit.”
