Daniel Herrera, a wetlands expert and former environmental manager for the North Carolina government, joins 97.9 The Hill’s Brighton McConnell on Thursday, July 13. The pair discuss the state’s latest Farm Bill, which included language that scaled back North Carolina’s protections for isolated wetlands. Herrera explains how this is affected by the federal protections — meaning there are still guidelines, but more gaps in those and limits on how those at the local level can respond. He also shares the environmental benefits of wetlands and floodplains, as well as the long-term effects of building on wetlands can bring.
