An Elon University football player died after falling from Morrison Hall on the UNC campus.

Elon University announced the death of Demitri Allison on Wednesday evening.

Allison was a junior from Cornelius, North Carolina, and was a wide receiver on the Elon Phoenix football team.

The message from Elon to the campus community said that Allison left the Elon campus on Tuesday and teammates, friends and family asked police to look for him because they were concerned for his well-being and emotional state.

Elon Athletic Director Dave Blank said in the release, “Everyone associated with Elon athletics is devastated. Demitri was a talented young man with a bright future who was loved by his teammates. We mourn his loss deeply and we pray for his family and loved ones.”

Counseling services were made available to students, faculty and staff at both universities.

There will be a “Gathering of Friends” beginning at 4:30 Thursday afternoon at Rhodes Stadium on the Elon campus.
