Two Brains
Religion, Politics, and Power
November 6, 2025
How does religion shape human societies while also serving as a vehicle for personal transformation? Drawing on medieval Christianity and Sufi traditions in Senegal and South Carolina, historian Brett Whalen and religious studies scholar Youssef Carter will examine how spiritual frameworks have influenced political authority, individual identity, and the pursuit of justice. Together, their insights will spark a conversation about the spiritual ideas that influence our collective lives—and how we might use them to build community in fractious times.
Keep the discussion going after the event at an informal, convivial gathering across the street at Glasshalfull restaurant.
