Event Details
On Saturday August 8, 2026, The League of Women Voters is encouraging Americans to Unite and Rise for Voting Rights by holding a nationwide day of civic action in honor of the anniversary of the Voting Rights Act of 1965. Leagues and partners will lead hundreds of activations across the country centered on increasing voter engagement, turnout and education.
Locally, The League of Women Voters of Orange, Durham and Chatham Counties, in conjunction with the Chapel Hill-Carrboro NAACP, invite the community to join us for a Nonpartisan Voter Education Forum, from 3:00 PM to 5:30 PM, at the Drakeford Library Complex, 203 S Greensboro St in Carrboro. We will be joining Americans, at hundreds of events nationwide, to honor the legacy of the Voting Rights Act and to continue the fight for freedom to vote!
The program will feature keynote speaker, Danita Mason-Hogans, who will discuss the history and impact of the Voting Rights Act, followed by a discussion of how voting rights have been affected by recent US Supreme Court decisions and changing election laws. Attendees will then have the opportunity to participate in breakout sessions led by representatives of The League of Women Voters, You Can Vote, The North Carolina Budget and Tax Center and Forward Justice. The goal of the forum is to provide community participants with information that can help them empower others to exercise their right to vote and ensure that their votes are counted.
The forum will be held on the first floor of the Drakeford Complex. Free parking is available in the attached garage that can be accessed from Roberson St. Interested community members can register for the event here.
