Event Details
The League of Women Voters of Orange, Durham, and Chatham Counties invites the community to join us on Thursday, July 17, at the Peace and Justice Plaza, 179 E Franklin St, Chapel Hill, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. We will be joining Americans, at hundreds of events nationwide, to honor the legacy of Congressman John Lewis and respond to the growing attacks on our civil and human rights.
The local action in Chapel Hill is part of “Good Trouble Lives On” — a nationwide day of peaceful, nonviolent action rooted in the legacy of the civil rights movement and inspired by John Lewis’ call to make “good trouble, necessary trouble.” Speakers include: LWVUS President Dianna Wynn, LWVNC President Jennifer Rubin, NC Representative Allen Buansi, Rev. Merri-Li Douglas, and others.
Participants will gather to demand an end to the authoritarian attacks on our freedom to vote, protest, and organize — and to stand united against efforts to criminalize our communities, roll back our rights, and slash vital public programs.
Local organizers invite the press to attend, capture, and uplift the voices of those taking peaceful action in defense of democracy.
For more information, or to arrange interviews with organizers or participants, please contact Maureen Galvin, VP for Voter Services for the LWVODC: lwv.mgalvin@gmail.com or 919-817-9352.
