Maps As Story Tellers

The Chapel Hill Historical Society is partnering with the Marion Cheek Jackson Center for a program entitled “Maps as Storytellers”  presented by Fowota Mortoo, a PhD student in geography at UNC. She has created a 12-square-foot map of the UNC campus, layered with images of the people who built buildings. Ms. Martoo will be joined by Dr. Kathyrn Wall, co-director of public history at the Jackson Center, who will share resources from www.fromtherockwall.org and discuss community efforts to honor Black builders and masons with a physical monument.
