This Week: Jeff Jones is currently an Associate Professor of Russian-Soviet and contemporary world history at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. He is completing his second book entitled Smoke, Mirrors and Memories: A Cultural History of the Soviet-Afghan War, 1979-1989, forthcoming in 2023. He also has published several articles.

James Wood is currently Professor of Latin American and modern world history at North Carolina A&T State University. He is the author of The Society of Equality: Popular Republicanism and Democracy in Santiago de Chile, 1818-1851 and the co-editor of Problems in Modern Latin American History: Sources and Interpretations, now in its fifth edition with Rowman and Littlefield. As a Fulbright scholar for Chile in 2016 he was a visiting professor at the Universidad Diego Portales in Santiago (where he observed Chilean student activism up close).

Cora’s academic background includes far-right political extremism and violence, and fundamentalist religious violence. Cora previously served as deputy campaign manager for Rep. Robert Reives, field director for Jonah Garson, and as an organizer for Planned Parenthood Votes.

She’s a midwife by practice and a racial equity consultant by trade. Her professional initiatives aim to expose racism — both within midwifery and by midwives — and she has developed workshops and presentations for health care institutions on reproductive justice and birth equity. Additionally, she has co-developed workshops covering racial equity fundamentals, shifting power, institutional bias, power of perspectives and racial trauma.

She was the founding organizer for Justice United in Community Effort and co-founder of Organizing Against Racism Orange County, a Racial Equity Institute Affiliate. Stephanie is the executive director of WEBB Squared, the director of organizing for CORE (Chatham Organizing for Racial Equity) and a consultant for the EmBrace Project-Equity for Moms and Babies. She is the mother of 5 adult children and lives with her husband Michael and son Malachi in Pittsboro, NC.

Rep. Graig Meyer has served in the NC House of Representatives since 2013. In 2023 he will become the State Senator for Orange, Person, and Caswell Counties. Meyer approaches his public service through the desire to connect people to the resources they need.
