After recording just the second triple-double in program history and helping the Tar Heels go 3-0 at the Cancun Challenge in Mexico, UNC’s Indya Nivar has been named the ACC Player of the Week.
Against South Dakota State in the first game of the event Thursday, Nivar scored 13 points, grabbed 12 rebounds and nabbed 10 steals to join Alyssa Ustby as the only two UNC women’s basketball players to record a triple-double. Nivar is only the fourth Tar Heel, regardless of gender, to do so.
Nivar was at it again the next day against Kansas State with 14 points and seven assists in another UNC win. She wrapped the week up with 11 points, six rebounds, six assists and six steals against Columbia and was named the 2025 Cancun Challenge MVP.
Nivar is the seventh Tar Heel to be named ACC Player of the Week in head coach Courtney Banghart’s seven-year tenure. Nivar is the first to earn the honor this season after Reniya Kelly did so last February.
In addition to Nivar’s honor, UNC rose a spot to No. 11 in the latest AP Poll following its 3-0 week in Mexico. Carolina is also ranked No. 13 in the season’s inaugural NET rankings. The Tar Heels are the highest-ranked ACC team in both the AP Poll and the NET.
UNC will be back in action when it visits No. 2 Texas as part of the ACC-SEC Challenge Thursday night at 7 p.m. Eastern time.
