A second-half goal helped No. 7 Florida State beat UNC 1-0 at Dorrance Field Wednesday night. The loss is Carolina’s first at home this season and snaps a 10-match home winning streak which dates back to the 2024 season.
The Seminoles controlled much of the possession in the first half, outshooting the Tar Heels 7-3 overall and holding UNC without a shot on target. The lone goal came in the 59th minute on a header from Florida State’s Jordynn Dudley, who redirected a cross past the diving Abby Gundry in the UNC net. Gundry ended the evening with a career-high five saves.
Carolina pushed hard for an equalizer in the remaining 31 minutes, forcing three saves out of Seminole goalkeeper Addie Todd in the final 13 minutes. Riley Kennedy and Linda Ullmark accounted for UNC’s three shots on target, while Olivia Thomas led the way with four shots overall.
Florida State displayed its superior depth during the match, playing 21 total players compared to UNC’s 13. Three Seminole outfield players (not counting the goalkeeper) played a full 90 minutes, while seven Tar Heels did so.
The loss drops UNC to 7-3 overall and 1-1 in ACC play. Carolina will be back in action when it visits No. 6 Notre Dame next Wednesday at 6 p.m.
