Chapel Hill High School’s 1983 state champion boys’ soccer team – which featured future North Carolina governor Josh Stein on its roster – was among the inductees into the school’s Hall of Fame earlier this month. According to athletic director Matt Dixon, it was the first time the school had hosted an induction ceremony since 2019.
“What an honor!” Stein wrote on Facebook. “Playing on the 1983 state championship team was a truly special experience, and my teammates remain some of my best friends… Congrats to the entire team, thanks Coach Larry Bosc, and go Tigers!”
Also honored were former football star Clyde Walker, who played quarterback at Chapel Hill High before competing at the collegiate level at Florida State. The school’s current head football coach, Isaac Marsh, was also inducted. Marsh has coached at the school for 20 years.
John Haus IV, a former men’s lacrosse star who helped Chapel Hill High win two state championships, was among the other honorees. Notably, Haus is the son of John Haus III, who coached men’s lacrosse at UNC from 2001 through 2008. Journalist Brick Oettinger, who covered ACC basketball for nearly 50 years, was inducted posthumously.
