Exploring Your Creative Genius: Episode 114

Our guest last week, Bill Fletcher, is the founder of NC Reads, a non-profit with a tremendously important mission: Helping children achieve reading proficiency by the 3rd grade.

On the show I acknowledged my claim that nothing is as important than growing your creative qualities has now been successfully challenged: the numbers are clear that this accomplishment has profound impact on the child’s life.

For instance, children who don’t achieve this reading level are 4X more likely to be high school dropouts. And dropouts face higher rates of poverty, unemployment, and incarceration.

Every child who doesn’t read at the 3rd grade level in 3rd grade will cost the state an estimated $260,000 over their lifetime.

One of NC Reads programs is a wonderfully creative and effective text program to parents reminding them of very simple things to do to help child prepare to read.
