The North Carolina State Highway Patrol is investigating the circumstances around a fatal crash that took place in northeastern Chatham County on Tuesday afternoon.
A release from the state agency on Wednesday said highway patrol troopers responded to a report of a crash along Manns Chapel Road at 1:08 p.m. on Tuesday — an area west of the Briar Chapel community in the Chapel Hill part of Chatham County.
Upon arrival, first responders found a man later identified as Daniel Louis Jagow dead on-scene. From initial inspections, according to the state highway patrol, Jagow crossed the center line of the road while traveling southwest in a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Once he traveled off the road to the left, the vehicle struck a tree and overturned near Blakes Drive. As of Wednesday, investigators are still uncertain to the exact timing of the crash and are working to determine an approximate time of death for Jagow. The Chapel Hill resident was 43 years old.
As the state highway patrol’s response continued in the afternoon, Manns Chapel Road was closed for around three hours before being reopened, according to Wednesday’s release. Troopers cleared the scene at 4:38 p.m.
Beyond the collision remaining under investigation, the North Carolina State Highway Patrol said no further information is being made public at this time.
