Budgets and bonds top the list of agenda items this week in local government. The Orange County Board of Commissioners will be tackling both, voting on next year’s budget proposal (outgoing county manager Bonnie Hammersley’s last) and likely approving a $300 million school bond referendum for the fall ballot. The Chapel Hill and Durham city councils will consider their own bond referendums as well, while budget votes are expected in Durham, Carrboro, and Chatham County. Unrelated to those issues, the Carrboro Town Council has one more high-profile agenda item: a possible vote to begin charging for parking in some public spaces, which have hitherto all been free.
