The Diamond Heels beat visiting Charlotte and William & Mary by a combined score of 32-3 in midweek games at Boshamer Stadium on Tuesday and Wednesday, as Carolina earned run-rule victories against both.

Against the 49ers on Tuesday, UNC raced out to a fast start with eight runs in the top of the first. A Parks Harber two-run blast and RBI singles from Alex Madera and Gavin Gallaher drove in the first four runs, and a 425-foot grand slam by Vance Honeycutt did the rest of the damage.

Colby Wilkerson drove in the next three Carolina runs with a single in the third and a double in the fifth. Though Charlotte got on the board in the sixth, two Tar Heel runs in the bottom of the inning ensured a 10-run-rule finish after the seventh. Cameron Padgett got the start on the mound and earned the win with five innings pitched and just one run allowed before Kyle Percival finished off the win with two scoreless frames.

Carolina one-upped itself the next night against William & Mary, scoring nine runs in the first on its way to another easy win. Parks Harber went deep once again, while Luke Stevenson, Honeycutt and Casey Cook also picked up RBIs in the inning. Harber knocked in an RBI single in his second at-bat of the frame as the Tar Heels batted around. Gavin Gallaher stole home for good measure.

Honeycutt went deep once again in the third inning, giving him 55 home runs in his Carolina career. That’s just two shy of tying a program record. Jackson Van De Brake hit the team’s second grand slam in two days in the fourth before the Tar Heels finally let their foot off the gas. UNC’s 19 runs came off only 12 hits, as eight Tar Heels walked, one was hit by a pitch and William & Mary committed four errors.

Ben Peterson earned his first win of the season with five shutout innings. Olin Johnson, Boston Flannery and Will Simmons also pitched in the 19-2 win.

The two wins improve Carolina to 35-11 overall on the season and 28-2 at home. The Diamond Heels do not have a series this coming weekend, with the team’s next game coming on Tuesday, May 7 at home against Campbell. UNC defeated the Camels on the road on March 5.
