The Pittsboro Police Department is investigating an armed robbery that took place Friday morning at a Truist Bank branch north of downtown.

A release from the department said it dispatched officers to 44 Powell Place Lane — which is off of Chapel Hill Road and U.S. Highway 64 — at approximately 10:40 a.m. on Friday based on reports of an armed robbery. Pittsboro said on-duty officers and command staff responded to the bank branch, but the suspect had “already left the premises prior to the arrival of our units.”

On Friday afternoon, police shared several images captured from security footage of a suspect and a vehicle of interest. The photos show a suspect in a neon yellow safety vest, a gray hoodie, army green pants and boots. The person is wearing a mask over their face.

The vehicle shown in the distributed photos appears to be a silver Ford crossover.

The Chatham County Sheriff’s Office, Lee County Sheriff’s Office and North Carolina State Highway Patrol are listed as other agencies assisting with the investigation.

A spokesperson for Pittsboro Police also confirmed that no one one was injured during Friday’s robbery. The release said there is “no apparent ongoing danger” to the public’s safety related to the incident.

The Pittsboro Police Department encouraged any community members with information regarding the robbery to call its office directly at 919-542-2911 to report any details.
