This week, officials in Hillsborough and Durham County will consider approving their 2024 budget plans, while Carrboro and Pittsboro will hold public hearings on their respective budgets. Meanwhile, housing and transportation are on the agenda for the Chapel Hill Town Council, while the Orange County School Board considers a land purchase in Hillsborough for a possible future school.
Here’s a rundown of local government meetings this week in Durham, Orange, and Chatham Counties.
Orange County
The Hillsborough Board of Commissioners will consider adopting next year’s budget when they meet Monday, June 12, at 7 p.m. in Town Hall Annex. Board members will also discuss the town’s comprehensive sustainability plan and consider amendments to the master plan for Collins Ridge. Click here for the full agenda.
It’s a busy time for the Carrboro Town Council, after town manager Richard White unveiled his 2024 budget proposal last week. Council members will meet twice this week: first on Tuesday, June 13, for a public hearing on the budget; then again on Thursday, June 15, for a budget work session. Both meetings will begin at 7 p.m. in Town Hall. In addition to the budget, Tuesday’s meeting will also continue a public hearing on the proposed Jade Creek subdivision on Old 86 north of Calvander, with a possible council vote. The Chapel Hill Town Council meets Wednesday, June 14, at 7 p.m. in Town Hall. Council members will consider adopting a Connected Roads plan to the town’s existing comprehensive plan; they’ll also hear an update on plans for North-South Bus Rapid Transit and offer feedback on the latest draft of a town-wide affordable housing plan. In addition, the council will consider approving plans for a multifamily housing development near the intersection of Columbia and Fordham. Get the full agenda at this link.
The Orange County School Board is holding a special meeting over Zoom on Monday, June 12, starting at 6 p.m. Board members will consider purchasing land on Corporate Drive in Hillsborough, possibly for a future elementary or middle school; they’ll also consider an increase in afterschool program fees. And the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City School Board will meet on Thursday, June 15, at 6 p.m. at Lincoln Center on Merritt Mill Road. The board will hear an update from the Exceptional Children’s Department; they’ll consider whether or not to allow district employees to crowdfund for school resources; and they’ll consider updating the code of ethics for board members. Chatham and Durham Counties
The Pittsboro Board of Commissioners will meet Monday, June 12, at 7 p.m. Board members will continue hearing from the public on next year’s budget proposal; they’ll also consider approving a Downtown Work Plan for the next fiscal year. Click here for the full agenda.
