Darkside and Pleiades have done it again.
The UNC men’s (Darkside) and women’s (Pleiades) ultimate frisbee teams each captured their third consecutive national titles over the weekend in Mason, OH, continuing the dynasty which has dominated college ultimate. For Pleiades, it’s the team’s third national championship. For Darkside, it’s the fifth.
Darkside advanced to the knockout rounds of the men’s championship as the No. 1 overall seed, but barely escaped a scare against Brown in the second round (Darkside had received a first-round bye). Darkside then topped Vermont in the semifinals before defeating Massachusetts 15-12 in the championship on Monday.

On the women’s side, Pleiades was also the No. 1 overall seed after going undefeated in pool play. In the knockout rounds, Pleiades topped Stanford, Vermont and Colorado to secure the title. Pleiades won each game by at least three points.
Ultimate frisbee is not an NCAA-recognized sport, so none of the student-athletes on Darkside or Pleiades are on an athletic scholarship. For more information on both teams, read more here.
