The No. 8 UNC women’s basketball team set a season-high scoring mark Sunday afternoon against Wofford, racing past the Terriers 99-67 at Carmichael Arena. It’s Carolina’s third time scoring 90 or more points this season.

The Tar Heels shot over 50 percent as a team for the first time since the season opener against Jackson State. No one was hotter than guard Eva Hodgson, who scored 20 points on 6-7 shooting and shot 5-6 on three-pointers. Hodgson’s three-point percentage of 52.2 percent this season is the best on the team and inside the nation’s top 15. She’s made at least on three in every game this year, and Sunday was her third game hitting at least four.

Kennedy Todd-Williams stroked four threes herself and tied Hodgson with 20 points on the day, improving her three-point percentage to a rock-solid 45.5 percent on the year. It’s the third time this season Todd-Williams has scored 20 points and the second time in three games. She and Hodgson combined for nine of Carolina’s 20 assists.

“When the ball moves, we’re hard to guard,” said UNC head coach Courtney Banghart. “Overall just a really good effort by our guys.”

Down low, Alyssa Ustby dominated on the glass, grabbing seven rebounds in the first seven minutes and finishing with 12 (Wofford as a team only had 21). Ustby also scored 17 points to record her second straight double-double and fourth of the season. Ustby also got in on the three-point act, and the Tar Heels finished with 12 on the afternoon, their most in a game since 2019.

Five Tar Heels finished with at least six rebounds: Ustby, Todd-Williams, Anya Poole, Teonni Key and Destiny Adams. Carolina finished with 57 as a team. Points in the paint were also predictably skewed toward the home team: UNC had 40, while Wofford had just 16.

Redshirt senior Ariel Young was able to see time for the second consecutive game. Young is recovering from a torn ACL which kept her out for the entirety of last season. Carolina’s only unavailable player was guard Kayla McPherson, who continues to work her way back from a leg injury suffered in a preseason practice.

UNC has now won 15 consecutive non-conference home games under Banghart. The team will have a chance to make it 16 next Friday when USC-Upstate visits Carmichael Arena. That game will tip off at 6 p.m.
