Tiffany Cheshire, the interim principal at Guy B. Phillips Middle School in Chapel Hill since October 2021, was appointed to the permanent role by the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools Board of Education Thursday night, effective immediately.
“I am so grateful and excited for the opportunity to lead the amazing group of students and staff at Phillips Middle School,” Cheshire said in a release. “I have received such strong support from CHCCS leadership and the entire Phillips community. I look forward to continuing to work alongside these and other stakeholders in committed service to all students.”
Cheshire has worked with CHCCS since 2009. She began as a K-5 substitute that year before becoming an intern at Seawell Elementary School in 2010. In 2013, Cheshire became assistant principal at McDougle Elementary School before taking the same position at Phillips in 2017. She was honored as CHCCS Assistant Principal of the Year for 2018-19.
Cheshire originally stepped into the interim role at Phillips last October after former principal Edmon Jones took an abrupt leave of absence. CHCCS told families and staff at the time Jones “will be out of the office for an undetermined period of time,” while describing it as a “confidential personnel matter.” Jones had been principal at Phillips since summer 2020.
