Longtime Orange County Commissioner Barry Jacobs has opted against running for another term on the board.
Jacobs had filed paperwork with the county Board of Elections to run in this year’s election, but he withdrew that paperwork on Friday. On Friday, Former Chapel Hill Town Council member Sally Greene also filed for election to the at-large seat that Jacobs has held.
Greene joins Hillsborough lawyer Brian Crawford in filing to run for the seat on the board.
Tommy McNeill also filed on Friday to run against incumbent Earl McKee for the District 2 seat on the board up for election this year.
Mia Burroughs had previously announced she would not be running for another term on the board. Jamezetta Bedford remains the only candidate who has filed to run for the lone District 1 seat up for election on the board this year.
While the general elections will be held this fall, all of the candidates who have filed for election as of Friday afternoon are Democrats, meaning the seats will essentially be decided in this year’s primary election if all filed candidates are Democrats when the filing period ends on February 28.
