Chazz Surratt, a quarterback from Denver, North Carolina who has committed to play at UNC, has been named Parade Magazine’s All-America Player of the Year.
Surratt led East Lincoln High School to state championships in football. He scored 66 touchdowns in his senior season and has a 4.5 GPA. According to Parade, Surratt even babysits his coach’s grandchildren. East Lincoln head coach Mike Byus told Parade, “Do you know this kid babysits my grandchildren? I mean, how many boys his age would do that? He’s great with kids and they like him too. And he’s polite. Chazz will ‘yes sir’ and ‘no sir’ you to death.”
The 6’3″ 210 pound quarterback was a 4-star recruit according to 247 Sports. He also may walk-on the basketball team.
Chazz and his brother, junior Sage Surratt, are currently trying to get the East Lincoln basketball team back to the state championship. They were runners-up last year.
Two other players from North Carolina made the Parade All-America team.
Wake Forest defensive lineman Dexter Lawrence made the team. He will play his college ball at Clemson. Asheville athlete Rico Dowdle is headed to South Carolina.
Chazz Surratt is one of 26 players in UNC’s recruiting class of 2016.
The Tar Heels finished the 2015 season with a record of 11-3.
The 2016 season will begin on September 3 in the Georgia Dome against the Georgia Bulldogs.
