In the district court that handles Orange and Chatham County cases, Seat 3 became available because Judge Jay Bryan is forced to retire due to age. The other three judge seats up for election in the court saw no challengers.
****UPDATE: Erika Bales originally filed to run in the Democratic Primary but was later found to be registered as unaffiliated, which has made her ineligible to win the nomination for the Democratic party. She will remain on the ballot because the discrepancy was realized following the start of early voting. Bales told Chapelboro she plans to follow the law and petition to be added to a general election ballot as an unaffiliated candidate.****
