A 10th-inning home run from UNC shortstop Logan Warmoth evened the series with the Tar Heels and ninth-ranked Louisville on Saturday.

UNC entered the series on a three-game winning streak but dropped the opener on Friday night 6-0.

Louisville scored in the third inning on Saturday for an early 1-0 lead. UNC tied the game up at one in the sixth inning.

UNC then carried a 2-1 lead into the ninth inning and starting pitcher JB Bukauskas was still in the game. After matching a career-high by going 8.1 innings pitched, Bukauskas exited the game with UNC holding the one-run lead but the Cardinals threatening.

Louisville did end up pushing across another run to tie the game in the ninth inning.

The game went into extra innings and Louisville was unable to push across a run in their half of the 10th, setting the stage for Warmoth’s walk-off.

Bukauskas scattered nine hits over 8.1 inning pitched while giving up two runs, only one of them earned, and struck out eight in his effort for Carolina.

The win was big for UNC. The Tar Heels have struggled this season in conference play in the highly-touted Atlantic Coast Conference. Carolina improved to 30-16 overall and 10-13 in ACC play with the win on Saturday.

The deciding game of the series will be played at one o’clock Sunday afternoon at Boshamer Stadium.
