Three things went terribly wrong with the U.S. Open.

The second year of the U.S. Open golf championship being telecast by Fox was a marked improvement from the network’s bumbling debut at Chambers Bay in 2015. At least Holly Sonders wore respectable clothes while conducting inane interviews in front of the giant digital board. But, despite all kinds of graphic gizmos, Fox apparently still doesn’t know where to place cameras.

How many times did the player putting block out the hole he was aiming for? Not that hard to figure out, if you have two cameras around the green that can cut to one another if that’s about to happen. And Fox was still slow with updating the leader boards on the screen, as if we didn’t have enough trouble with how many strokes Dustin Johnson was leading by. Was it two, one or none?

The USGA caught the wrath of star players Rory McIlroy, who missed the cut, and defending champ Jordan Spieth, tweeting angrily about how officials told Johnson that they might penalize him a stroke for when his ball moved back on the fifth green – two hours after they said there would not be a penalty. “A joke,” one of the players tweeted. “Take that, USGA,” was another tweet after DJ won by four, or was it three, strokes to make the controversy moot.

Johnson, who sat out a six-month suspension probably for a cocaine habit that they totally ignore in the uppity world of golf, seemed to be a favorite of his co-stars to win his first major. And he did by sticking a long iron four feet above the hole on 18 and making the birdie. Out came girlfriend Paulina Gretzky and their young son, and that was the third thing wrong with the Open, Paulina’s outfit.  White and skin tight clinging to her every curve, Paulina’s dress was so short she had to hold it down when she walked and tugged it down as she climbed the stairs with Dustin to sign his score card, which turned out to be one stroke higher because they did assess the penalty.

Paulina’s dad, hockey’s Great One Wayne Gretzky, probably told his little girl sometime Sunday night: Sweetheart, if you have to hold down your dress in public, wear short shorts.

So proud of my best friend and love of my life @djohnsonpga 2016 US OPEN CHAMPION ?
