I wonder who handicaps the UNC Basketball ticket prices.

I saw the season tickets for the Tar Heels’ 2016-17 home schedule. Most interesting about the 17 games, which includes one exhibition, is the varying prices. For lower arena seats, they range from $25 for the practice game against UNC Pembroke to the mind-boggling $115 for the last home game against Duke.

In between, you can gauge how good – or high profile – the various opponents are by what it costs to come see them play the Heels on their home court. For example, according to the non-conference game prices, Chattanooga and Radford must be the worst opponents on the slate because it only costs 40 bucks to see the Mocs of the Southern Conference and the Highlanders of the Big South. And Davidson is more expensive since a ducat to watch the Wildcats of the Atlantic 10 is $55, same as Long Beach State of the Big West, Northern Iowa of the Missouri Valley and King Rice’s Monmouth Hawks of the Metro Atlantic. Personally, I think getting to laugh at the crazy Monmouth bench acting out is worth more than 55 bucks. Tennessee of the SEC must be the best non-ACC foe since it costs $60 to see Rick Barnes’ Volunteers play in the Dean Dome.

In the ACC games, Florida State and Virginia Tech must be pretty bad because it only costs $70 to catch the ‘Noles and Hokies in person. Then come Pitt, Notre Dame, Virginia and Louisville at 75 bucks a pop, NC State and Syracuse at $80 each and the grand salami against the preseason top-ranked Blue Devils.

One hundred and fifteen bucks to see Duke’s four returning starters and five prospective one-and-dones try to ruin Senior Night for Isaiah Hicks, Kennedy Meeks and Nate Britt with Stillman White and former footballer Kanler Coker also starting. Need to get juniors Joel Berry and Justin Jackson in that game as soon as possible.

In all, a lower level season ticket adds up to $1,100 or $64.70 per game. Now, wouldn’t it be easier to just say $65 each because the fans are really coming to see the Tar Heels, and we don’t want those who paid more per game feeling worse if they lose. Do we?
