UNC Chancellor Carol Folt confirmed that the university will be making the third response to the NCAA regarding the long-running paper class scandal public on Thursday.

Folt was speaking to the media during an intermission in the UNC Board of Trustees meeting on Thursday. David Glenn was first to report the response would be made public Thursday.

Folt, who began her tenure as chancellor as the scandal was drawing renewed attention from the NCAA, said she is hopeful for a resolution soon.

“Absolutely. That’s the plan. That’s the determination. We’ve had a great team working on it. I think people have done a lot, and I’m really proud of the reforms that have been put in place, the action that’s been taken.

“And I think I also looked out at our group of students, too, and realized that, you know, this is a new world. None of them were here when any of this even began. And they are really doing the important things that we need to do at a university.

“So, we need to handle this in the right way. But we also need to continue to focus on the amazing assets that are our students and faculty right here every day.”

UNC athletics director Bubba Cunningham will speak about the response on Thursday afternoon.
