Woody Durham, who served as the play-by-play voice for UNC athletics for 40 years, has died at the age of 76. Family members confirmed that Durham passed away peacefully at 12:45 a.m. Wednesday.

Durham retired from the Tar Heel Sports Network in 2011 after four decades behind the microphone calling UNC games on WCHL and other affiliates across the state.

Mick Mixon served as Durham’s broadcast partner and reflected on his life while speaking with WCHL’s Blake Hodge.

Jones Angell was the protégé to Durham and succeeded him in the broadcast booth on the Tar Heel Sports Network. Angell spoke with WCHL’s Blake Hodge about Durham and how he was preparing for UNC’s game tonight against Syracuse.

Mitch Kokai served as the news director in the early-1990s at WCHL and worked closely with Durham. Kokai shared some memories of working with the legendary Tar Heel broadcaster with WCHL’s Blake Hodge.
