CARRBORO – Former Senator Ellie Kinnaird was mayor of Carrboro from 1987 to 1996 before running for the North Carolina Senate. The Town’s current mayor says he wants to do the same thing.

“I have some friends and allies that have been longtime supporters of one another, and I needed to determine whether any of them were interested in this position that I’d sit on the sideline and let someone else do it,” Mayor Chilton says.

Mayor Chilton announced well before the 2013 filing period that he would not seek re-election for the office of mayor. He says he’d not only like to fill the seat for the upcoming term, but also for the foreseeable future.

“I would anticipate serving for a number of years, but my goal would be to at least be there long enough to see the party through the stage of turning around control of the state senate so we can begin to undo the harm that the Tea Party has done to our state,” Mayor Chilton says.
