An engineering firm working for Google Fiber has identified a space near the lower parking lot of the Chapel Hill Public Library as a good spot for a Fiber Hut.

The Fiber Hut is needed to provide Google Fiber services to the community.

The town-owned land near the Siena Hotel will be leased annually to Google Fiber at $2 per square foot.

According to information provided by Town Manager Roger Stancill, Google Fiber’s engineering firm will continue working on a detailed design for the network, based on a preliminary agreement regarding the Fiber Hut’s location.

And the town and Google Fiber will finalize a lease for that spot.
