New details are beginning to come to light regarding a weekend homicide in Chapel Hill.

Several 911 calls from the shooting early Sunday morning at the Red Roof Inn just over the Durham County line that left 21-year-old Edward Young III dead were released on Monday afternoon.

A hotel employee called 911 reporting he had heard a “loud popping noise.”

“I ran into the middle of the building, and there’s a blood trail leading to the room,” the caller said. “So, I’m not sure if somebody got shot, somebody got hurt or whatever the deal is.”

The employee told emergency communications personnel that he was not aware of where the suspects or weapon were at the time.

But he added three individuals left the scene in what “looks like a Mazda 3.”

The caller described the vehicle as champagne in color. But in a series of weekend releases, police did not identify any vehicles or suspects from the scene.

Police say the shooting is being investigated as a homicide.

If anyone has information related to the homicide, you are asked to contact Chapel Hill Police or Crime Stoppers. Calls to Crime Stoppers are confidential and the caller may be eligible for a cash reward up to 2,000 dollars for information that leads to an arrest.
