North Carolina governor and UNC president during the Civil War, David Swain, is the subject of a biography being written by Chapel Hill’s Willis Whichard. Whichard brings a lifetime of public service and experience to the task. He is  the only person in the history of North Carolina who has served in both houses of the state legislature and on both of the state’s appellate courts. He will tell us about Swain’s service during the university’s most trying times.
