Make Moving Simple!
Top 5 Tips to Simplify Your Move…..

1. Discovery – Consider what’s in your current house and where will it end up in your new home!
Moving is an excellent opportunity to free yourself of the burden of unwanted and unused items – not only will you save money on your move, but you’ll also free up space in your new home. It’s a good idea to go through items that have not been used for over 12 months and separate the items you need from those you’re simply hanging onto. While you are packing, be sure to keep an empty donation box in each room. As you pack and come across belongings that you no longer use, place them in this box. You can then either organize a garage sale prior to moving or recycle unwanted items by donating them to charity. Remember to keep receipts of your donations for tax purposes later.

2. IPHONE Users
If you are an IPHONE user, there is a great IPHONE moving application that can help you organize the whole process, months in advance. It is called “Moving List” by New Gravity Ventures. The application provides direction on what you should be doing 2-3 weeks in advance, 4-6 weeks in advance and lets you add your own “to do item” to the list. Some people have all their lists in their IPHONE, so if this is you, consider checking out this application.

3.
Packing Boxes
Be sure to label your moving boxes as you are packing. A great hint…label boxes based on rooms or floors, example for kitchen place a yellow piece of paper on these boxes, for kid’s bedroom use a pink piece of paper and so on. Be sure to label your boxes on the sides and the top. The reason for this is when boxes are stacked; MOVERS ONLY LOOK AT THE TOP OF THE BOX. This can help you save a lot of time unpacking by having all your boxes in the correct room. Also, indicate what is inside of the box such as FRAGILE!

4. Draw a Floor Plan of Your New Home
With a floor plan of your new place in hand, cut out furniture templates from magazines to determine the pieces of furniture that will fit in your new home, and the best location of each. Knowing which pieces will fit in your new space will keep you from moving too much furniture.

5.
Pack a Survival Bag
Put together a survival bag for move day. It might include personal needs (medications, eyeglasses, toiletries, change of clothes, important papers, etc); kitchen needs (snacks, drinks, folding chair, disposable cups/plates);basic tools (hammer, screwdriver, flashlight, tape, etc.); cleaning supplies (sponge, roll of paper towels, soap, etc.); and payment for the mover – be sure you know which form of payment they accept.  Refill prescriptions as you’ll need during the next couple of weeks.
