Have you invited everyone to bring their dogs to work on Friday in celebration of National Dog Day? Will you post photos of all office pups on the National Dog Day Facebook page?
Will you be watching Lassie re-runs while you serve up a hot dog luncheon buffet?
Will you put a big bowl of water outside your door for any pups who happen to wander by…and perhaps leave it there year round?
Whether or not you choose to celebrate National Dog Day with one of these somewhat silly sounding ideas, which, by the way, tend to boost morale, productivity and customer loyalty; don’t miss these reminders from favorite pups.
1. There is much to explore and discover.
2. If what you want lies buried, dig until you find it.
3. Be loyal and protect those you love.
4. Let others know when they have invaded your “territory”.
5. Avoid biting when a simple growl will do.
6. Run, romp and play every day.
7. Accidents happen.
8. When loved ones come home, always run to greet them.
9. When someone is having a bad day, be silent and stay close.
10. Stop and smell the roses…and everything else along the way.
Great reminders which tend to help us be better managers, better leaders and better people.
Which tends to increase the likelihood of doing good business.

Note: Some of the above reminders are in my words. Some of them are from unidentified authors.
Since I can’t credit them, I will just credit Hurley (left), a very special dog, who is no longer with us.
But taught us so much.

And now our grand puppy, young Cooper, enthusiastically reminds of us of all ten – particularly #7.
Thank goodness it’s Mistake Management Month!
What about you? What lessons have you learned from favorite pups in your life?

Good Business Fedora StyleDuring Coach Larry Fedora’s pre-game radio broadcast last week, he said “I want us to be a team that plays smart, plays fast, and plays physical.” Sounded good. Experience Junkies in BusinessIt’s true what KIit FitzSimons said in his article Climb It Control. I have taken a Fifth Ape class. Yes – right there in the Forest Theatre, I ran and skipped and jumped up and down and across. And after at least twenty tries, succeeded in jumping off a wall and landing on a 2 […]

Good Business by Harrison Barnes & UNCIt’s hard not to be impressed by UNC sophomore, Harrison Barnes on the basketball court. And then – there is the business side of Barnes. A friend sent an article to me yesterday and while reading it, I decided I had to share it with the readers of Good Business because of the excellent lessons […]

The Shining of Grimball JewelersYou’ve seen their ads (perhaps one on your computer screen right now). You’ve heard and probably laughed at their ads on WCHL – about bling, the end of the world or the choice of sleeping on the sofa with your golf clubs or in the bed with your wife. Very fun and clever. You may […]

Happy Duke-Carolina DaySome treat it like a national holiday. Meetings get cancelled. People head home early. Traditions abound. One of my traditions for Duke-Carolina Day is to re-visit the story of that especially famous game back in 1974. Not just because it’s famous, but also because of its benefit for people in business who are frequently faced […]

The Power of a MosquitoThe Chapel Hill 2020 process is flying by with discussions, workshops, presentations, report out sessions packed onto the calendar. All focused on developing a plan for an even better Chapel Hill. I’ve had the pleasure of co-facilitating one of the theme groups with Gary Saleeby & Marlene Rifkin. Through much discussion, the group has established […]
