Welcome to “Thriving in Orange!” A monthly segment presented by Orange County Economic Development, “Thriving in Orange” features conversations with local business owners about what it’s like to live and work in Orange County, especially in light of the county’s small business grant program which launched in 2015 and has helped small businesses and small business owners with well over $100,000 in grants each year!
This month, 97.9 The Hill’s Aaron Keck has a conversation with Michelle Campbell, founder and CEO of Time Value Accounting & Advisory Services, a firm specializing in accounting, taxes, consulting and advisory services for growth-driven businesses.
“‘Time value’ is time value of money,” said Campbell. “I have a finance Bachelor’s and Master’s in finance from Florida International University … I didn’t start out as a CPA or accountant, that was my dad’s thing. My mom was an entrepreneur, but ‘time value of money’ is something that represents what money means in the future versus its present value. So, I said, ‘hey, how can I incorporate myself into the name without saying ‘Michelle Campbell CPA’? … I wanted to build a business and now have the businesses dependent on me.”
In growing business across two offices, one of which is in Durham, Campbell and Time Value Accounting & Advisory Services have been able to use grant funding for payroll and efforts in expanding staff and service potential.
“In terms of growing, scaling my business, getting the right people in the right seats has been a new one for me,” said Campbell. “Understanding that people have to fit the culture as much as they fit the skill. … We’re trying to scale and help other businesses scale.”
“We’re here to support you and be a strategic partner,” said Campbell. “If you want to have that kind of relationship, we are here for you.”
