This week, Aaron welcomes art historian Jennifer Dasal (creator/host of the “ArtCurious” podcast), whose new book focuses on a little-known but fascinating moment in art history. It’s called “The Club: Where American Women Artists Found Refuge in Belle Époque Paris.”

“The Club” is the American Girls’ Club, a boarding house and gathering space in Paris for female artists from the U.S. that existed from 1893 to 1914. Dasal’s book tells the story not only of the club, but also of the brilliant artists who passed through its doors – including one whose work was displayed at New York’s legendary Armory Show and another who overcame racism (including at the club itself) to earn a place among the greatest sculptors in the world.
