Did you graduate from Chapel Hill High School? You’re invited to an open house at the school on Saturday, May 19. Come by between 10 am and noon and walk the halls – and meet the architects who are overseeing the upcoming major renovation. Construction is set to begin in June.


Saturday, June 2, head to the NC Botanical Garden for the Carolina Moonlight Garden Party, beginning at 6 pm…great food, live music and dancing, all to support the garden’s programs and mission. NCBG.unc.edu for tickets and more info.

Hillsborough is hosting Last Friday every month, which will feature special events all through downtown plus live music on the courthouse lawn from 6:30pm – 9:30pm. The schedule for bands is as followed:

  • July 27 – U.B.U. The Band
  • August 31 – Second Set

Saturday, May 12, is Strawberry Jamboree day at the Carrboro Farmers Market! Head to Town Commons from 7 am to noon for strawberry samples, shortcake and more. CarrboroFarmersMarket.com for more info!

Sunday, June 24, the organization Fit4Mom is hosting Chapel Hill’s 2nd annual “Climb Out Of The Darkness” hike – a community walk to raise awareness and funds for women who experience mood and anxiety disorders during or after pregnancy. The walk begins at 9 am at Briar Chapel.


Sunday, May 20, the Orange County Historical Museum is hosting a “Vintage Typewriter Roadshow,” 2-4 pm at the museum in Hillsborough. Collectors Luis and Susan Galiano will talk about the history of typewriters. OrangeNCHistory.org for more info.


Saturday, June 16, head to Hillsborough for a bike tour hosted by historian Ernest Dollar. From 11 am to 1 pm, beginning at the Tryon Street public parking lot, bike through historic Hillsborough and learn more about the town’s storied history. Get more info at OrangeNCHistory.org.

  • Memorial Day concert on Monday, May 28, at 12:30 pm at Chapel Hill’s American Legion Hall.
  • Saturday, June 16, from 4-6 pm at Durham Central Park as part of the Triangle Band Festival.

Thursday, May 17, head to the Chapel Hill Public Library for another “Meet the Author Tea.” This month’s guest author is Jennifer Stanley, who writes mysteries under the name Ellery Adams. The program runs from 4-5 pm; come for refreshments at 3:30.


Saturday, May 19, Orange County Animal Services is holding a Family Fun Fest from 2-4 pm at the Rogers Road Community Center. Come for face painting, arts and crafts, games, popcorn, and more – plus, get your pets vaccinated against rabies for low cost, get help from vets, and learn more about the department’s spay/neuter program.
