WCHL works hard to provide a good service to the surrounding community. This post highlights some of the people who make that possible.


Ron Stutts is a local radio legend. He’s worked at WCHL since 1977 and started as a fill-in during the summer for staff who were on vacation and quickly became the Morning Host. Ron has lived in North Carolina his entire life, and loves how the people in the Triangle are from all over the world.

Fun fact:I am obsessed with rock and roll music.  I can recall the lyrics from an obscure song from the 60’s, yet can’t remember where I parked my car 20 minutes ago.

Latest obsession: He is starting to collect vinyl again.


Nicki Morse:

 

Nicki has worked at WCHL since October of 2014 as a Program Director, Midday host, and Morning show producer. She likes that WCHL is a community radio station that serves its community and how the staff works together to create a good service for people. Her favorite part of the job is how she gets real input into shaping the way the radio sounds and have her opinion matter. After graduating from the Connecticut School of Broadcasting she started a long career in radio that continues today.

Aubrey Williams

 

Aubrey has worked at WCHL for more than 10 years. She is the General Manager, and enjoys how every day is different at the station. She loves the staff and their fun and creative nature, ability to work hard, and great sense of humor. Her favorite part of the job is the role that WCHL has in the community and the service it provides. She graduated from Washington College as an English major but has worked in radio since 2003. She loves spending time with her family and going to the river walk in Hillsborough, roaming around in Duke Gardens, and camping.

Favorite restaurant: Mediterranean Deli

Favorite song: Stretch Out and Wait by The Smiths

Fun fact: She has a really good sense of smell. She acknowledges that this is a blessing and a curse.

Latest obsession: Sun Basket (meal/recipe service)


Victor Lewis:

 

Victor works at the City Desk as a contributor/content provider and editor for WCHL. After moving to North Carolina in 2000, he graduated from UNC with a degree in journalism. As a child, Victor wanted to be a Marine Biologist, but his time in college developed his love of written word. He sees “language as a system that is an artform and a science at the same time.”

Favorite local restaurant: Choland (read his review here)

Favorite movie: Lawrence of Arabia

Fun fact: His favorite trip was when he went to Austin City Limits and made it to the front for Florence + The Machine, beat Turtles in Time at a barcade, and got to see the movie “Serenity” at the Alamo Draft House.

Kenneth Dike:

 

Kenny has worked in Ad Sales and Strategy at WCHL since 2014. As a child, Kenny envisioned himself growing up and writing for a newspaper. After graduating from UNC-CH’s school of Journalism he worked for IMG and managed corporate sponsorships. Now working at a local radio station, Kenny enjoys all the active community members that WCHL gets to support on a daily basis. In addition to helping local companies reach people in the community, he likes fly fishing, Jeopardy, Fargo, and much more.

Favorite local restaurant: Laplace in Hillsborough, Squids in Chapel Hill

Favorite TV show: Anthony Bourdain Parts Unknown

Fun fact: He has been to 47 states

Favorite music genre: Country, but his favorite artists are Pearl Jam, Garth Brooks, Tupac, and Dave Matthews


Taylor Reneau:

 

Taylor is the Operations Manager at WCHL and has been since July of 2015. She loves working at WCHL because she is given a lot of freedom and her job is very versatile. After graduating from Elon as a Broadcasting major, she worked at a TV show as the program director for its associated radio program. The skills she gained there led to her another job in radio at WCHL. As a child growing up in North Carolina, she wanted to be a veterinarian.

Favorite video game: Borderlands game series

Fun fact: Sebastian Stan once made fun of her accent.

Jada Jarillo:

 

Jada is WCHL’s Community Outreach Manager and has been since August of 2015. She majored in English and Spanish during her time at Appalachian State University. Her passion for Spanish brought her to spend a year in Guadalajara, Mexico, where she met her future husband and developed her Spanish fluency. After working on community outreach for a nonprofit, Jada knew that she could apply her skills at WCHL. Her favorite part of her job is getting out and meeting local people who listen to the station and engaging with them in fun ways.

Favorite TV shows: Gilmore Girls

Fun fact: She’s been skydiving three times.

Lauryn Colatuno:

 

Lauryn has been WCHL’s Digital Development Manager since October 2016. She enjoys creating new products to sell and developing new ideas for WCHL’s social media. Her favorite part of the job is the support she gives to other staff members and the space for creativity her job allows. After graduating from UNCW, Lauryn worked as a TV producer for notable broadcasting companies such as Spike TV, Animal Planet, and the History Channel. Transitioning from TV to the digital world, Lauryn spent some time working for Yelp as a community manager for the Triangle Area. She feels that her background in both producing and digital communication gave her the wide skillset to transition into her final form of media management: radio.

Fun fact: She was best friends with Christina Aguilera and even got a shoutout on her first album!

Steph Beckett:

 

Steph has been a reporter for WCHL since July of 2016. She enjoys getting out into the community, the fact that she knows a lot of government officials on a first name basis, and the space for creativity that her job allows. When she was a kid, she wanted to be an actress on broadway. Her second year of college at UNC, she took her first journalism class and discovered that she was pretty good at it. Two years later, Steph graduated from UNC with a major in journalism. This fall, Steph will be attending Columbia University to get her masters in journalism.

Favorite TV shows: Seventh Heaven, Pretty Little Liars

Favorite song: Sloop John B – The Beach Boys

Fun fact: She went to the same Cirque du Soleil show as Kourtney Kardashian but got a much better deal for her tickets than the B-lister did.
