Slavery has only been recently outlawed in the country of Mauritania. Children born into slavery worked primarily in agricultural and fishing businesses. While the US Department of Labor and other organizations say slavery still exists in small villages in the country; local dispute those claims, saying that no one born after 1970 is a slave.
