Let’s be honest with ourselves, you’re not getting much work done today.

It’s Friday, and UNC basketball takes on Auburn tonight in the Sweet 16.

If anything, you’re passing the time by watching UNC basketball highlights as the clock creeps closer and closer to 5 and making plans to catch the game with friends.

In order to make life easier, here’s a compilation of highlights from UNC’s history to get you closer to tonight’s game.

1. 1982 NCAA Basketball National Championship – North Carolina vs. Georgetown

This was Dean Smith’s first championship as the Tar Heels’ head coach. A young freshman by the name of Michael Jordan (you may have heard of him) hit the game-winning shot with 15 seconds remaining to give UNC the win.

2. Luke Maye’s Game Winner Against Kentucky

Luke Maye went from virtually unknown to UNC legend after hitting the game-winning shot against Kentucky in 2017 to send the Tar Heels to the Final Four. After Justin Jackson missed a free throw that would have made it a four-point game, Kentucky’s Malik Monk hit a three-pointer to tie it.

From there, you know what happened.

3. 2017 NCAA Basketball National Championship – North Carolina vs. Gonzaga

UNC returned to the national championship game a year after suffering a heartbreaking, last-second loss to Villanova. This time, the Tar Heels didn’t need last-minute heroics en route to the program’s sixth (or seventh) national championship.

There’s a condensed version of this game on YouTube, but let’s be honest, you want to watch the full thing.

5. 1993 NCAA Basketball National Championship – North Carolina vs. Michigan

Do we have too many national championships on this list? Maybe, but blame UNC for winning so many of them. This was Dean Smith’s second title at UNC, this time coming over Michigan’s Fab Five.

6. UNC vs. Duke – February 21, 2019

UNC and Duke’s first matchup this season was one of the most hyped college basketball games in recent memory. Former president Barack Obama and director/producer Spike Lee highlighted the many celebrities in attendance at Cameron Indoor Stadium.

Freshman phenom Zion Williamson left after less than a minute due to shoe malfunctions, but you can always enjoy UNC putting the beat down on the Blue Devils.

7. UNC vs. Colorado 1997 – Dean Smith’s 877th Win

With this win over Colorado in the 1997 NCAA Tournament, Dean Smith became the winningest coach in college basketball history with his 877th win.

Although Smith’s record would later be surpassed, there’s no denying this is a special moment for UNC.
