This week’s Hometown Hero, presented by Hendrick Southpoint, is William Travis Kukovich from William Travis Jewelry!

Although William Travis Jewelry is known as one of the top jewelry makers in the local area, his philanthropy work is often underappreciated.

“Philanthropy is a big part of our business,” Travis said. “I have a younger brother with autism and an older aunt with autism, and growing up in your life with that you were always thinking of giving back to the community because you see the community giving back to you all the time.”

One of the ways that Travis and his staff help the local community is by fixing glasses for kids. It might seem like a small task, but Travis said it helps remove the burden from parents who may not be able to pay for the fix.

“That kind of thing causes a lot of turmoil at home and can lead to a lot of different things. So every school teacher in Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill knows that we’ll repair those glasses. They can call me, we’ll go pick them up, we’ll repair them for them that day. That child never has to go home and talk about this or have this discussion. If we can’t repair them, we just go and buy them a new pair.”
