Ladnor Geissinger, professor emeritus of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, is this week’s Hometown Hero!
Described as a “mathematics genius,” the retired professor volunteers to work with students at Carrboro High School for two hours each day, five days a week. Working with Jeffery Robinson, an ESL teacher at CHS, Geissinger helps struggling students understand the basic vocabulary associated with mathematics and the methods to read and solve word problems.
Geissinger has been volunteering his time and efforts teaching students at CHS since 2012, and has been a “steady force” in a volunteer group that now numbers above 500 members, mostly composed of UNC students and community members, volunteering across twenty local schools to meet the needs of students as well as teachers.
Congratulations to Ladnor Geissinger on being this week’s WCHL Hometown Hero!
