This week’s Hometown Hero, presented by Hendrick Southpoint, is Frances Shetley — longtime Carrboro resident, former member of the town’s Board of Aldermen, founder of the beloved Community Garden Club, frequent volunteer, and recent recipient of North Carolina’s highest honor: acceptance into the Order of The Long Leaf Pine.
In the 1970s, Shetley was also the driving force behind saving the Carr Mill Mall — preserving a piece of local history and architecture for generations to come. You can hear all the details, and more about Shetley’s incredible life, in the full segment below as well as in a special feature story on Chapelboro highlighting her story!
