This week’s Hometown Hero, presented by Hendrick Southpoint, is Gene Medler.
Medler is the founder of NCYTE, a tap dance ensemble that is one of the most beloved in the country. After learning tap dance for an acting role after college, Medler fell in love with the art form and was inspired to spread the love of tap dance to future generations. In the 42 years since it was founded, many of Medler’s students have become acclaimed tap dancers in their own right. But more than just their artistry, Medler has instilled in his students the want to give to future generations of tap dancers the way Medler did for them.
