This week’s Hometown Heroes, presented by Hendrick Southpoint, are Rachel Hodakowski and Aaren Capilitan.
Hodakowski and Capilitan lead a nonprofit on campus entitled Carolina Pediatric Attention Love and Support (CPALS). About 200 students volunteer working with CPALS and about 20 of those get matched up with patients as 1 to 1 pals. Hodakowski and Capilitan also lead CPALS in fundraising, recently organizing a 5K called Golden Heroes. All the funds go to the clinic to support families who need extra financial support and scholarships for pediatric patients who are going to college. Doctors and nurses have seen the difference CPALS makes for the patients and their families while they’re going through treatment.
