This week’s Hometown Hero, presented by Hendrick Southpoint, is Nataliia Bondarenko.

Bondarenko is the outreach coordinator for the Center for Slavic, Eurasian, and East European Studies at UNC. She came here after the beginning of the war in Ukraine. In her role at UNC, she has worked tirelessly to bring art to UNC and tell the story of Ukraine people. She has been organizing powerful projects and performances, including one coming up on March 8th, The Ukrainian Lullabies Project. It’s a performance of lullabies by 6 Ukrainian women living in North Carolina to pass onto their children. She’s continuing to organize these projects and performances during a challenging time too, as UNC will be shutting down the Center for Slavic, Eurasian, and East European Studies after this year, leaving her job at the University in limbo.
