This week’s Hometown Hero, presented by Hendrick Southpoint, is Kirby Saunders.

Saunders is Orange County’s Emergency Services Director. He and his team are responsible for coordinating the local response to winter storm Fern. That effort includes setting up locations for staff support and shelters, including one at Smith Middle School. It’s a highly complex effort that requires multiple agencies working together to address a wide variety of concerns. His team has been monitoring the storm for the last week while also not knowing exactly what the weather was going to do.
