This week’s Hometown Hero, presented by Hendrick Southpoint, is Julian Jacobs, a local resident who’s undertaking a unique cross-country trip to raise money for the Orange County Rape Crisis Center.
Watch Julian’s video explaining the trip.
Jacobs is on a journey from Chapel Hill to Los Angeles. But there’s a twist: he’s starting with a single penny in his pocket, and he’ll have to barter and trade his way across the entire country using only that penny as a seed. (He’s calling it “The Penny Exchange.”)
It’s all to raise funds for the OCRCC, which is having to reduce staff and services in the wake of ongoing cuts in federal funding.
