This week’s Hometown Hero, presented by Hendrick Southpoint, is John Claude Bemis.

Bemis is an acclaimed writer, musician, and visual artist and is on the board of the Orange County Arts Commission. After the damage the Eno Arts Mill suffered in Tropical Depression Chantal, Bemis was one of the first people on sight to begin recovery efforts. He and his wife rented the largest storage unit they could to get the art in a climate controlled environment and spearheaded the transportation of the art, especially for artists who were out of town and couldn’t get their own works. Bemis has been there every day helping clean up the Eno Arts Mill and has been helping to organize fundraisers as well.
